OUR LAST CONSTRUCTION
The work crew took on the huge challenge of constructing a two story, dilapidated New York apartment for The Humans in Fall 2022. We started right after the spring show Verdict and worked through the summer right up to opening. The set had to be safe, functional and visually support the action in the play.
IT STARTED IN HIGH SCHOOL
Many of us started volunteering backstage in high school. It was a steep learning curve under the guidance and mentorship of our inspirational teachers. The values of team, community engagement and volunteering were fostered and forged in those formative years.
STAGE FRIGHT
Most of the work crew have terrible stage fright! We commend the actors for having the bravery and dedication of putting themselves out there night after night. Besides, there is more drama off stage than on! We enjoy being behind the scenes and always look forward to the final product – seeing the show.
THEMES IN AN INSPECTOR CALLS
The issues J.B. Priestley illuminated in this post war 1940s play ring true 80 years later: social injustice, class distinction, discrimination, exploitation, and ultimately our collective responsibility as a society to care for others. The veneer of a prominent family cracks and reveals a deep dysfunctionality. There is also a sense of hope that the younger generation will learn from their mistakes and make a better future.
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS
We enjoy the eclectic choices of our local theatre and look forward to the technical and aesthetic challenges of supporting the play through building a set in place from the ground up, one 2 x 4 at a time!
